Indeed many southern intellectuals and political leaders who represented southern Sudanese political interests both within and outside of the SPLA were either murdered or imprisoned by Garang. These include the SPLA’ s March 1993 murder of Joseph Oduho, southern Sudan’ s most respected political leader and the SPLM’ s founding chairman.
